THERE’S some fitness fun for the whole family at the inaugural KPMG Relay at the Growthpoint Kings Park Stadium in Durban on 24 September.

The newest relay event on the Durban sports calendar sees running and walking relay teams compete on the 5km flat course along the Umgeni River and the Durban Promenade in a battle to claim bragging rights as the fastest team in KZN.

“We are delighted to host a new format relay to the Durban community. The KPMG Relay presents a great way for us to accelerate our engagement with communities in KZN and to raise awareness about health and fitness among all ages. It is open to everyone – from business professionals and sports clubs to schools and groups of friends. We even have a 1km obstacle course for the kids, so it really is an event that the whole family can participate in,” said Pierre Jacobs, Chairman of the KPMG Running Club and a partner in the firm.

The KPMG Running Club will also showcase some of its tar athletes at the event, including Two Oceans and Comrades champion Caroline Wöstmann, KPMG Running Club elite athletes and athletes from the Vorentoe Running Academy.

“Caroline will give an inspirational talk about her road to success, while people will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with her and our other elite athletes. What makes this relay different from other relays is that school teams will be able to test their skills against one of the best running academies in the country – the athletics academy at Vorentoe High School,” Jacobs added.

Teams and their supporters will enjoy a festive atmosphere before, during and after the relay with music, entertainment, delicious food stalls, a beer garden, a Kidz Kay obstacle race and a supervised children’s play area.
