Man shot in business robbery

Blue Security advises business owners to be vigilant when opening up and closing their business premises.

A MAN was shot during an armed robbery at a business premises on the Berea at the weekend.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said three armed men held up a business owner and his employee while they were busy locking up the Warwick Avenue premises at around 6.50pm on Saturday.

“One of the three armed men shot the staff member and robbed him of a large sum of cash. The business owner transported him to hospital for treatment,” he said.

Jackson advised business owners to be especially vigilant when opening up and closing their business premises as robbers often targeted businesses at these times.

“Criminals often stalk their victims before striking so it is important to always be aware of your surroundings and to report any suspicious activity near your property to the police and to your security company. Varying the days and times that cash is removed from the property and taking different routes to and from the bank also reduces the risk of becoming a crime target,” he said.

He added that installing CCTV cameras near the entrance of a business premises provided a useful deterrent and a means of gathering valuable intelligence that could help the police in their investigations.
