Metro cop arrested in Cowey Road murder

Police have confirmed one of the suspects in Monday's fatal shooting in Cowey Road was a Metro police officer.

ONE of the three men arrested for the murder of accountant, Mr Hoosen Dhoda on Monday morning at his place of work in Cowey Road, has been identified as a Metro police officer.

Police confirmed this in a media statement released this morning.  .

Captain Nqobile Gwala said members of the national intervention unit together with a private security company had worked tirelessly in Umlazi following leads as they searched for the suspects wanted for murder. “Their hard work paid off when they arrested the three suspects, among them was a metro police officer,” she said.

Police were alerted to the crime on Monday morning around 8am when Berea SAPS were called out to the scene.

The body of Mr Hoosen Dhoda, who was the manager of the business  in Cowey Road was found with fatal gunshot wounds to the body. The business premises was also ransacked but it is still unclear what was stolen. Seven spent 9mm cartridges were recovered from the scene,” Gwala added.

The suspects, aged between 21 and 32 years, were arrested and will be charged with murder and robbery. They are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday, 8 August.

KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major Gebneral Bhekinkosi Langa commended the partnership between the security agency and the police which led to the arrest of the suspects.

“These criminals will be subjected to prosecution and we will ensure together with the NPA that a well prepared docket is presented in court,” he said.
