Fuel strike sends motorists to fill up their tanks

Fuel workers have embarked on a strike causing fears that petrol stations may run dry.

FUEL industry workers embarked on a strike today, Thursday, 28 July sending motorists heading for their nearest petrol stations to fill up with fuel as fears mount that deliveries to service stations will be affected by the strike causing stations to run out of fuel.

According to a spokesman at the Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union, Clement Chitja, refinery and depot workers were striking over a number of issues, chief of which were wage increases.

Workers on strike include those employed a fuel depots, transfer facilities and oil refineries. It did not include those employed at service stations. The Automobile Association has urged motorists to ensure their tanks are topped up.
