Paramedics save prem baby born in ambulance

Paramedics saved a premature newborn who was delivered in an ambulance on the way to hospital by performing CPR when she failed to start breathing.

A newborn baby is in a stable condition after she was prematurely born at 7 months earlier this evening.

Paramedics from ER24 were attending an event at South Beach in Durban when a woman went into labour. On route to hospital paramedics delivered the baby in the back of the ambulance.

Only a couple of minutes away from hospital, paramedics noticed that the newborn girl showed no signs of life. They immediately started with CPR and advanced life support paramedics continued CPR upon their arrival at Addington Hospital.

A short while later the little girl started breathing spontaneously. She is currently being cared for at the hospital. The mother is doing well and is also being treated at the hospital.
