Glenwood thief caught

ADT armed response officer, Thobela Gxumisa, was praised by his swift response when he apprehended a thief in Glenwood.

UMBILO SAPS took custody of a thief on Monday, 6 July, thanks to the rapid response by a local security company.

The ADT Security Monitoring Centre received a call from a concerned resident who could see a suspect attempting to break into her neighbour’s home. Armed response officer, Thobela Gxumisa, was immediately dispatched and arrived at the Chelmsford Road property within minutes.

The resident was standing on her balcony and was able to provide ADT with details of where the suspect was located next door. Gxumisa entered the property and successfully apprehended the suspect who was found hiding in the garden. The thief was handed over for arrest to members of the Umbilo SAPS.

Ivan Govender, District Manager of ADT Security KwaZulu Natal, praised Gxumisa for his swift response and bravery.

“I am proud of Gxumisa’s quick response which ensured that another criminal has now been placed behind bars,” he said.

Govender advised residents to regularly check their perimeter fencing and to ensure that gates, windows and doors, including garage doors, are properly closed and secured.

“As an extra security measure, consider installing outdoor beams; if you already have them ensure that they are also activated. In addition, should you come across a suspect on your property, remain calm and immediately contact your security service provider or the South African Police Service. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous,” he said.
