Human trafficking comes under the spotlight

Residents are encouraged to attend the Bulwer Community Safety Forum meeting to learn more about human trafficking.

BULWER Community Safety Forum will meet on Tuesday, 14 June at Glenwood Community Church (intersection of Clark and Bulwer Roads) at 6.30pm.

All parents and interested people are urged to attend this meeting, where the topic of human trafficking will be discussed by Thora Mansfield from Open Door Crisis Care Centre.

Thora founded The Open Door Crisis Care Centre in 1997, a multifaceted, multi-disciplinary non-profit “one stop” trauma and counselling centre reaching in excess of 100 000 men, women and children.

She is a well-known speaker on many topics including women’s and children’s issues, human trafficking and was the lead speaker at an international conference in Gauteng on Human trafficking and child labour. She has served on both national and international panels with experts in the field of human trafficking.

The movie Sister Sister will be shown at the community meeting, which chairperson, Heather Rorick, said every parent needs to see.

“The movie shows how easy it is to manipulate someone to be human trafficked. It is happening on our doorstep, with cases reported in Durban,” she said.

All residents are welcome to attend and stay for a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits afterwards.
