Big walk road closures

Road closures for the Discovery ECR Big Walk will come into effect from 5am on Sunday.

DURBAN motorists are advised that roads will be closed tomorrow morning, Sunday, 22 May from 5am, when the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk sets off from uShaka Marine World at 7am. All roads will be closed until  about 12.30.

Included in the road closures are Masabalala Yengwa – formerly NMR Avenue (south bound) from Simiso Nkwanyana  Road – the old Goble Road to Sandile Thusi Road (Argyle).

The 5km route will pass beneath Masabalala Yengwa after Suncoast Casino. The 10km route will continue to Blue Lagoon before leading up to Masabalala Yengwa and the People’s Park. Those following the 15km and 20km route will walk all the way to Durban North before finishing at People’s Park.

Road Closures:

From 5am to around 12.30pm

1.Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Avenue (south bound) from Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Road to Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road.

2.Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Avenue (north bound) from Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road to Isaiah Ntshangase (Walter Gilbert) Road

From 6am  until around 12.30pm

1.Snell Parade from Athlone Drive to Battery Beach Road.

2.Athlone Drive between Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Ave and Snell Parade

3.M4 (north bound) offramp to Athlone Drive

4.M4 (south bound) offramp to Athlone Drive

5.M4 (south bound) onramp to Riverside Road (for 15km & 20 km walkers) [Roadway open to traffic at 11h30]

6.M4 (north bound) onramp to Riverside Road (for 15km & 20 km walkers) [Roadway open to traffic at 11h30]

7.Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Avenue (south bound) two lanes from Athlone Drive to Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Road – All vehicles to go west upon Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Road

8.Battery Beach Road / Snell Parade [at the traffic circle] – Controlled Access to the parking at the Mustering Fields.
