KWAZULU-NATAL Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit secured nine life sentences during the month of April for sexual related offences.
Police arrested 321 accused for committing various cases including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, statutory rape, kidnapping and other sexual related offences. They secured 43 convictions including nine life sentences and 424 years for various crimes.
Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the sentence handed down to the accused and commended the KwaZulu-Natal FCS for the good effort.
“We will continue protecting our children and women from sexual predators. We will continue investigating and arresting those who are involved in abusing our decent children and women. The victims of such crimes must break the silence and report such crimes to the police,” she said.
