Veteran MMA fighter retires undefeated

The 45-year-old martial arts expert says it's time for him to change focus.

DAVID Verster, Glenwood’s veteran mixed martial arts expert, who retained his SA Champion title earlier this month, has announced his retirement from MMA.

The Lion’s Den founder told Berea Mail that after successfully defending his South African MFC Light Weight title, it was time for him to change focus.

The 45-year-old martial arts expert said he decided to retire from MMA, to concentrate on the grappling element of martial arts. “I’m glad that my last fight was a good win against a worthy opponent. There was no way I could go out any other way,” he added laughing.

His fellow Lions Den fighters, Khulekani Hlongwa and female fighter, Bunmi Ojewole won their fights in grand style. “Bunmi won by arm bar submission within seconds of the first round, Khulekani also won his fight with a knee to the abdomen off his opponent and I capped it by winning my fight with a triangle choke submission just two minutes into the first round, so its celebrations all round,” he added.

Verster said he would concentrate on the teaching aspect of Brazilian Jiu -Jitsu and create and grow a strong team of Lions Den fighters.
