Enjoy entertainment at cultural week

Durban High School celebrates its 150th cultural week this May.

DURBAN High School is kicking off May with a special 150th cultural week.

Enjoy some great entertainment during the week, starting on Friday, 29 April where you can catch the DHS celebration at Seabrooke’s Theatre with award-winning local theatre company, The AUC, putting together an evening of entertainment to keep you laughing for the next 150 years. The evening, which starts at 7.30pm, will comprise of skits, songs and silliness, starring Marc Kay and Clinton Small and headlined by DHS Old Boy Adam Dore.

On Tuesday, 3 May, DHS will be re-introducing its house plays, performed by the learners themselves under the theme A Twist in the Tale.

Each house will present these plays in the DC Thompson Hall at 6pm. The plays will be adjudicated by Rikki Hastings, drama educator at Queensburgh Girls’ High, and Matthew Everitt, a DHS Old Boy. The points awarded will go toward the Cockhouse Trophy awarded at year end. Tickets cost R5.

On Wednesday, 4 May there will be the DHS Music thru the School at 6.30pm in the AJ Human room at Durban High School. This is a collaboration between the staff and learners. Entry is free.

Adding to the celebrations is the Boys are Back in Town, a one night only special which features Durban High School Old Boys in a celebration of music across the years on Friday, 6 May at 7pm in the AJ Human Room at Durban High School.

Last but not least, DHS will present 150 Laughs on Saturday, 7 May in the Durban High School’s DC Thompson Hall at 8pm.

This comedy show will feature some of the best comedians around including Old Boys Masood Boomgaard, Preven Reddy, Neville Pillay, Jem Atkins and Neil Green. The long-time collaborating stand-up comedians will use the opportunity to share some of their most treasured, hilarious high school experiences while also dipping into material around politics, dating, sport and everything else in between.
