Taxi protests: Man jumps off bridge, lands in cemetery

Two people were seriously injured during taxi protest actions which turned violent this afternoon.

TWO people were seriously injured during ongoing taxi protest action today.

According to Pieter Rossouw, an ER24 spokesperson the riot in the Warwick Triangle area believed to involve taxi drivers is still volatile and people are advised to stay clear of the area.

“ER24 responded to an incident where a person sustained a gun shot wound to the face. Paramedics treated and transported the patient to Addington Hospital. Another person allegedly jumped off a bridge and landed in the Warwick general cemetery in an attempt to escape the riot and sustained moderate injuries including fractures,” explained Rossouw.

The man was transported to hospital. Rossouw added local authorities were on scene.
