A young thief who snatched a chain form a woman at a Morningside intersection was among the criminals arrested by Berea police.

Man arrested on Musgrave Road

BEREA police were patrolling along Musgrave Road last Monday at about 5pm when they noticed a suspicious vehicle, a white Chevrolet Sonic.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, Sergeant Carl Dennis and his team stopped and searched the driver and vehicle and found a remote jammer in the vehicle.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of implements used for breaking into motor vehicles.

Chain snatcher arrested

A young man was arrested for robbery after he snatched a chain from a woman who was driving in Morningside.

According to Berea's Lieutenant PN Naidoo, police were patrolling along Clarence Road last Monday morning, close to Avondale Road where a robbery had occurred just moments before. “A woman had allegedly stopped at the Avondale and Clarence Roads intersection corner, when the man came to her window and snatched her chain. With the help of the community, our crime prevention members, managed to chase and apprehend the 22 year old suspect,” he explained.

Wanted armed robber arrested

An armed robbery suspect from the Berea area who failed to appear in court after his case was remanded in September 2015 was arrested on Friday.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, around 11am Sergeant Carl Dennis and Constable Byron Erasmus were patrolling along Avondale Road when they noticed a the man sitting on a ledge on the side of the road. “As they got closer they realised the man had a warrant of arrest out against him. They arrested the man and detained him at Berea SAPS,” he explained.
