DUT suspends lectures again

DUT has once again suspended its academic programme for another 48 hours as the university responds to issues raised by the SRC after recent protests.

LECTURES at Durban University of Technology have been suspended. A decision to further suspend lectures was taken on Tuesday morning.

According to Alan Khan, senior director of corporate affairs at the Durban University of Technology, the decision to suspend the academic programme for a further two days was taken after a meeting between the DUT executive management and the executive deans.

“We apologise for this second break in the academic calendar; however, we feel that this 48-hour suspension will give us a chance to further respond to the issues raised by the SRC in Durban and Pietermaritzburg. We have agreed, in consultation with the SRC, to continue with the student registration process and to keep the finance and financial aid offices open to assist our students,” he added.

Khan said that while the academic programme was suspended, the university was not closed. “Our administration and support services will be operational. The academic programme will resume on Thursday, 18 February.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenienced and frustration caused by the suspension of the academic programme,” he said.
