Man killed in N3 smash
A man died after sustaining serious injuries in a collision on the N3 near Tollgate Bridge.
A DRIVER has died after sustaining critical injuries when the vehicle he was in collided into the rear of a truck on the N3 north bound near Tollgate Bridge just after 8pm on Tuesday.
According to Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care, paramedics arrived to find the critically injured driver still in the wreckage.
“The patient had sustained critical injuries and advanced life support paramedics placed the man on a manual ventilator before carefully extricating him from the vehicle. Once the man had been stabilised he was transported to hospital. Unfortunately a short while after arriving at hospital the patient passed away due to the serious injuries he had sustained,” said Jamieson.
He said it was unclear what caused the single vehicle to collide with the truck, however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
“While paramedics were attending to this scene rubberneckers on the south bound carriageway caused a second collision on the busy highway. Fortunately no one was injured in the second collision,” said Jamieson.
