Artist paints for CANSA

A local artist, who is passionate about raising funds for CANSA, will be selling her art to help the charity.

A CANSA volunteer has committed to raise funds for the organisation, while enjoying her hobby, painting.

Marlene Pretorius, a former employee at CANSA, is working from home due to her health, and as she still has a passion to raise funds for CANSA, has thought of a way to do this.

“I am an artist, and have decided to paint oil paintings on canvas, and sell to individuals, or even corporates, and 40 per cent of all my art sold will go to CANSA. This will not be a 'once-off' event, but ongoing, as funds are needed on an ongoing basis for chemo patients, for Tough Living with Cancer for kids, for screenings and education and support in areas where people cannot afford medical assistance,” said Marlene.

Marlene said she is passionate about helping CANSA, as her family, like many other families, have had cancer in various forms on both her mom and dad’s side.

“On my father's side, all the men are survivors, and my mom is a survivor. I have lost two cousins from cancer, and recently heard my husband's friend's wife died of brain cancer. I am determined to assist CANSA in any way that I can,” she said.

Marlene currently has nine pieces that are ready for selling, and in time, an online auction facility will be created as well, to enable people to buy art for gifts or for themselves on auction. She said an auction will be held on 4 February, World Cancer Day.

“If your company has an empty wall and needs a specific piece in specific colours, send communication, and I will do the commission according to your specifications,” she said.
