Stop wasting water

A resident is shocked to see how much water is being wasted in the community.

EDITOR – We are constantly being told that there is a water shortage, however I see so many people watering their gardens, even in the rain, with a hose or sprinkler.

Instead of sweeping a path, or sweeping up cigarette ends, at a public pool, they hose the area, then pick up the bits. A broom would work even better and a pan into which one can sweep.

If the area is messy and needs to be washed, fine, but why use hundreds of litres of water for nothing? Hose it for an hour, when a few minutes of sweeping would remove all the litter. The municipal workers use a lot of unnecessary water, just hosing the litter itself. If the litter was removed first, and then the hosing cleaned the area, it would make more sense. Even after heavy rain, they, and those who work as gardeners, water everything as though to use up as much water as possible.

Since there is a water shortage, why not tell people how to save water, on TV, in newspapers and even at churches. If they had to use a bucket instead of a hosepipe, they'd soon see how much water is being wasted.
