Major R200 000 drug arrest for Umbilo CPU

Umbilo SAPS members worked hard to minimize crime in the area with various drug arrests and teh recovery of R200 000 worth of drugs over the weekend.

UMBILO police made a major breakthrough on Sunday afternoon when they arrested three suspects for drug possession and recovered drugs with an estimated street value of R200 000.

According to Lieutenant Pumzile Makaula, communications officer at Umbilo SAPS, the Crime Prevention Unit, headed by Warrant Officer Bheki Sibiya were patrolling along Clark Road when they noticed a suspicious vehicle.

“Members stopped the white Opel Corsa and requested all occupants to get out of the car to search them. After finding nothing illegal on the three occupants, they searched the vehicle and found an empty popcorn packet with what was suspected to be crack cocaine inside,” said Makaula.

The three suspects, Nozipho Mkhize (21), Andile Ngwenya (26) and Akuewulu Remigus (38), were charged for possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine and appeared in court on Monday.

Makaula added that members made other drug possession arrests for various amounts of dagga and cocaine over the weekend on Cambell, Canberra, Sydney and Umbilo roads. “Umbilo SAPS under the leadership of our station commander, Colonel Gerald Mkhize have a goal and mission for 2016 to rid Umbilo of drugs, as drugs is one of the main contributors of crime in the area,” concluded Makaula.
