Unit arrests 270 for sex crimes

Police secured 62 convictions, which included seven life sentences as well as a total of 788 years imprisonment for various sex-related crimes.

KWAZULU-NATAL Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit secured seven life sentences during the month of November 2015 for sexual related offences.

Officers worked tirelessly, arresting a total of 270 offenders for various sexual related crimes in the province including rape, attempted rape, assault, kidnapping, sexual assaults, violation of protection order and other cases. Police secured 62 convictions, which included seven life sentences as well as a total of 788 years imprisonment for various crimes.

“We will not be deterred from protecting our children and women from sexual predators. We will do everything within our control to ensure that offenders are prosecuted and kept behind bars. The efforts by KwaZulu-Natal FCS to solve these cases is commended and we applaud their dedication to keep our communities safe during this festive season. We need to ensure that we sustain these efforts 365 days a year,” said Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
