Inquest launched into body found near North Beach

Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered in the bushes near North Beach.

MYSTERY still surrounds the body of a woman which was found in the bushes on Durban’s North beach on Saturday night.

Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said police were still investigating after the body of the 31-year-old woman, whose British passport was found on her, was discovered in the bushes between Durban’s Suncoast Casino and the Pirates Surf Life Saving Club.

He said police were investigating how the woman had died and a post-mortem would be conducted to find the cause of death.

He said British authorities would be notified.
According to media reports, a Pirates lifeguard, Bennie Mthethwa was on duty in the lifeguard tower late on Saturday night when a colleague alerted him that there was someone in the bushes.

Mthethwa grabbed his lifesaving pack and ran to the spot where the body had been found but realised the woman was dead and called the police.
