Berea fence-hopper nabbed

An ADT officer was commended for a job well done, when he apprehended a would-be thief recently.

A WOULD-BE thief got more than he bargained for when he was apprehended on the Berea recently.

ADT security officer, Petrus Ndlovu, was on patrol when he noticed a man climbing over the perimeter fence of a Bellevue Road complex and immediately called for back-up. Ndlovu gave chase and successfully apprehended the suspect before he was able to escape. The suspect was handed over for arrest to the Berea SAPS.

Ivan Govender, district manager of ADT Security KwaZulu-Natal, commended officer Ndlovu for his vigilance and quick response and had the following reminder for residents.

“Regularly check your perimeter fencing and ensure that windows and doors are properly closed when you are not home. As an extra security measure, consider installing outdoor beams; if you already have them ensure that they are also activated during the night and when your home is unoccupied. Should you come across a suspect on your property, immediately contact your security service provider or the SAPS. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous,” he said.
