Lion’s Den fighters ready for the ring

Two Lion's Den fighters are keen to get into the ring at the MFC fight club title face-offs at Greyville Racecourse this month.

LION’S DEN founder, Glenwood’s David Verster is keen to get back into the ring to defend his Pro AM SA title at the end of the month.

Verster, together with one of his Lion’s Den fighters, 30-year-old Andrew Caruth who is ready to challenge the title of amateur featherweight, will get into the ring at the SA Megladon Fight Club (MFC) Fight Zone on Sunday, 29 November at Greyville Racecourse.

Caruth told Berea Mail he had been training for the fight nine times a week for the past three months. “I’ve won a few grappling fights and am very excited to have the opportunity to challenge and prove my ability to myself and peers,” Caruth said. The athlete said he had started martial arts with karate when he was eight years old but says MMA is very different and for the past five years, has become a way of life.

David Verster’s peppered hair belies a vast knowledge and skill in martial arts that has seen him return to the ring and have youngsters half his age submit to his grappling techniques. “This is the fight for the year and I’m keen to get into the ring. It is going to be a challenging fight because my opponent has a good record but I’m ready for it,” he said.
