Cyndi’s fan base explodes at music fest

Sixteen-year-old Cyndi Kritzinger wowed the crowds at this year's White Mountain Music Festival open mic competition.

LOCAL musician, 16-year-old Cyndi Kritzinger, is fast becoming one of Durban’s favourite musical legends.

The Umbilo resident recently visited the White Mountain Music Festival in the Berg and on arrival was told about an open mic contest being held during the weekend.

Without preparation or prior knowledge of the contest she decided to run over a few songs before auditioning. She went to book a slot and went back to her tent to play through the songs she had chosen.

After performing her allocated three songs she got such a rousing response from the audience that she was asked to perform a fourth song. After two days of auditions Cyndi was chosen as one of the finalists. She was up against some serious contenders most of whom are already well established artists having already had radio play time and having played overseas and released albums.

In the final, Cyndi blew the crowd away and had the audience in the palm of her hand. After all seven contestants had finished and the judges had deliberated all of the finalists were invited back onto the stage to hear the verdict.

“The MC asked the crowd if they had a favourite and all you could hear were chants of, “Cyndi, Cyndi,” said proud dad, Mark.

Cyndi ended up as a credible runner-up with an ever increasing fan base. Cyndi loves singing and playing the guitar. She has no particular musical influences, and enjoys all kinds of music. She plays different genres, from mellow acoustic classics to modern music, She has played many gigs in and around Durban, as well as the Durban International Blues Festival.
