Attempted murder suspects arrested in CBD

Two SAPS operations reeled in a suspected drug dealer and an attempted muderer in Durban on Monday.

TWO wanted suspects were arrested by the Durban Flying Squad’s narcotics team on Monday.

According to Major Thulani Zwane, the unit arrested a 36-year-old suspect for possession of drugs in Field Street. “It is alleged that the members received information about someone who was selling drugs and proceeded to the said place. The suspect was found in possession of 44 ‘slopes’ of heroin, 101 grams of dagga and R980, which is believed to be the proceeds of drug trade, that were seized,” he said.

The arrested suspect was charged for possession of drugs and he appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

In another operation, the EThekwini Cluster Trio Crime Unit, Metro Police K9 Unit and Durban Flying Squad members arrested a 21-year-old suspect for house robbery at Reservoir Hills, Durban.

“It is alleged that the members embarked on an operation searching for house robbery and attempted murder suspects. During the operation, police noticed a suspect matching the description provided to them through intelligence, exiting near a shack. The suspect was in possession of a handgun. When he was approached, he fired a shot towards the police before fleeing on foot. Police retaliated and the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach,” explained Zwane.

The suspect was then arrested and taken to hospital, where he is under police guard. He will be charged and will appear in Durban Magistrate’s Court as soon as he is released from hospital.

KZN Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, highly praised police on the arrests. “We will continue with our operations and make sure that we put criminals behind bars so that they can face the consequences of their actions,” she said.
