THE Sunfoil Dolphins have brought in fielding consultant, Ryan Maron, to help that with their 2015/16 campaign. The former Western Province player and fielding consultant to the Afghanistan national team was called up by head coach, Lance Klusener, in an attempt to take the Durban-based side’s fielding capabilities to the next level.

Klusener explained that the Dolphins want to focus on fielding this season, thus the bringing in of Maron. Maron was training with the side for the whole of last week. Klusener added that after the week with Maron, the side will 'top up' with the former Western Province player, especially throughout the first part of the season.

Maron played five years of cricket in Holland before moving to England to gain coaching experience. Maron has been head coach of the University of Cape Town for four years. Maron explained that Klusener had contacted him when Jonty Rhodes had given Klusener a report of the ICC T20 qualifier.

Maron added that working with professional cricketers has always been a dream for him, and is really impressed with the players thus far. “The players have responded really well, I was really impressed with the way they’ve worked. I think they can definitely improve 20 to 30 per cent – Lance is aware of that and that’s what we’re trying to do.

“We want to make the Dolphins the best fielding side in each competition they play in.” Players spend most of their training in the nets, bowling or batting, but Maron believes that players should spend the same amount of time working on fielding, “You can win trophies or lose trophies from good or bad fielding; it’s the third dynamic of the game and I think it’s just as important as batting and bowling,” Maron said.
