UKZN campuses reopened on Monday with no violence across the province, except for Pietermaritzburg.

UKZN spokesperson, Lesiba Seshoka, explained that no violent occurrences were reported on the university’s Edgewood, Westville, Howard College and Medical School campuses, with minor incidents reported at the Pietermaritzburg campus.

Seshoka added that it was reported on two different occasions that students had discharged fire extinguishers on other students at the Pietermaritzburg campus. Two students were treated for injuries, with one being taken to hospital. One suspect was apprehended and charged, while Risk Management Services (RMS) is searching for the other suspect.

RMS and the SAPS are currently monitoring the situations on all campuses now that the doors of all universities have been opened after the violent protestations and disruptions in the past weeks.
