Rugby players make U16 training camp

Five Durban High School rugby players have been selected for the SARU U16 team.

FIVE learners from Durban High School have been selected for the South African Rugby Union (SARU) U16 training camp, which will take place in Paarl next month.

In total, SARU selected eight players from KZN, including Kamvelihle Fatyela, Phendulani Buthelezi, Sanele Nohamba, Sean Barnes and Cham Zondeki from Durban High School, who have all proved that hard work pays off as they have been training consistently throughout the year, under the supervision and guidance of Mr Scott Mathie, DHS rugby coordinator and former Sharks player. The other three players are from Kearsney College, Glenwood High School and Maritzburg College.

Mathie said: “We have put in some hard work in creating a high performance environment for our rugby players and these boys are starting to see the benefits of this programme. We are only at the beginning of this process, which makes me excited for the future of DHS rugby. We are constantly working on new ideas and are striving to make DHS the best environment for a young man to maximise his potential both on and off the sports field.”

The training camp will provide skills and development training across a broad range of categories, including that of medical and dietary assessments, conditioning assessments and coaching, fundamental and positional rugby skills assessments and coaching, training and education on relevant rugby topics.
