Teen drowns at beachfront

A teenager drowned and two others were injured after getting into difficulty in the surf on Friday.

A 14-YEAR-old-boy drowned and two others were left in a serious condition at the Snake Park beach on Friday.

Reports indicate that the boys went for a swim and landed themselves in difficulty in the surf.

“Quick responses from lifeguards resulted in them pulling the three children from the surf onto the beach. A Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic and his team, as well as the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit, arrived at the scene and found the lifeguards performing CPR on the 14-year-old boy,” said Netcare 911’s Chris Botha.

Botha said, while the ambulance crew stabilised the two boys (aged nine and 17), who experienced serious near-drowning symptoms, the paramedic, police and lifeguards worked fervently to resuscitate the young boy.

“Tragically despite all their efforts, the child was declared dead at the scene. The two other patients were transported to a local hospital,” said Botha.
