SHOPOWNERS in Durban’s CBD are closing their doors in anticipation of an outbreak of protests by aggrieved taxi owners and operators who are currently locked in a meeting with Metro Police  at the Ethekwini Community Church on Anton Lembede Street.

Minibus taxi operators, together with meter taxi operators went on strike yesterday in protest of Metro Police’s actions in fining them for not being in possession of the necessary permits.

Taxi operators claim the permit applications are being  delayed by the Department which is not processing the applications quickly enough.

Motorists are advised to avoid the CBD area.
