Expect delays after Sydney Road protests

Traffic is extremely backed and motorists can expect delays coming out of the city after Sydney Road was closed in Umbilo due to violent protests.

WHILE details of violent protests close to the Apollo Tyres factory in Durban’s Sydney Road are sketchy, police have closed the road.
Traffic is extremely backed up and motorists can expect delays coming out of the city after the Sydney Road closure. Eyewitnesses reported protesters were allegedly burning tyres with smoke billlowing through the air.
Heather Rorick of the Bulwer Community Safety Forum said traffic had been re-directed, resulting in Esther Roberts (Frere) Road and Glenwood now been jammed with traffic. “Big trucks, trailers, taxis etc are all taking Esther Roberts Road,” she said.

Meanwhile Umbilo police could not comment on the incident at the time of going to press. Updates to follow.
