Police arrest two after Glenwood hijacking

Two of four hijackers have been arrested following a hijacking incident in Umbilo on Saturday.

TWO suspects were arrested and a vehicle recovered by Umbilo SAPS, following a hijacking at the weekend.

According to Lt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, at around 5am on 1 August, a man and two of his friends stopped their vehicle, a new unlicenced BMW X1, in Brand Road, and then noticed that a white Toyota Hiace with four occupants had parked behind the car.

Two armed men got out of the Toyota and approached the driver of the BMW. Shots were fired and the men were forced to get out the car.

The hijackers then fled in the BMW, after stealing the men's cellphones and sunglasses.

Two of the hijackers were arrested in Chesterville and two are still at large.

Umbilo police found the vehicle abandoned on Monday in Park Street, Durban.
