A double dose of Pieter-Dirk Uys

Banish the blues with a dose of provocative satire. Come and enjoy the blacks, whites, browns, yellows and ‘others’ that make up this unique country of our dreams.

Master satirist, Pieter-Dirk Uys, returns to the Hilton College Theatre with two of his shows: Adapt or Fly on Friday, 7 August, and An Evening With Evita Bezuidenhout on Saturday, 8 August at 7.30pm.

In a time of depression, recession, fear and anger, what is better and more healing than a good laugh at the expense of those who depress, recess, frighten and annoy us? Mrs Evita Bezuidenhout, Kidi Amin, Pik Botha, Nowell Fine, Mrs Petersen, the old Krokodil, Madiba and the dancing DA are coming to the rescue.

After successful seasons in Cape Town, Johannesburg and a run at the Soho Theatre in London, Uys is back with his finger on the pulse of South Africa, introducing the colour red into our black and white rainbow. Juju will join Evita, the gang of NP leaders and the cabal of ANC stalwarts in a show of strength that will introduce a healthy perspective of our fears and worries.

Pieter-Dirk Uys started his one-man onslaught against politicians who should know better with Adapt or Dye in 1981. Adapt or Fly holds up the cracked mirror of satire to a twenty-one-year-old democracy and uses humour as a weapon of mass distraction.

An Evening with Evita Bezuidenhout – spend some quality time with the most famous white woman in South Africa, a legend in her own lunchtime thanks to her cooking, an icon who can confront any ‘aikona’. Share her optimism and fearlessness that have made her one of the most respected voices in free speech.

“It is said when history repeats itself, it can take tragedy and turn it into farce. So banish the blues. Come and enjoy the blacks, whites, browns, yellows and ‘others’ that make up this unique country of our dreams. As long as we can laugh at our fear, we are still in charge of our future,” she said.
