Berea police station comander appeals to the community to be extra vigilant after seven cars were stolen in the area over last weekend.

Whoonga arrest

Berea police arrested a man for drug possession on Sunday afternoon after observing the man selling whoonga during routine patrols.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, spokesman for Berea SAPS, the suspicious man was noticed at the taxi rank near Steve Biko campus. “The officers stopped and searched the man and found that he had the drug in his shoes. He was arrested and taken to Berea SAPS,” said Naidoo.

Beware hike in car theft

Berea police are advising the public to be extra vigilant after a hike in car thefts over the weekend.

Colonel Nathaniel Kweyama, station commander at Berea SAPS said he was concerned after seven cars were stolen in the greater Morningside area. “Many of the cars were parked on the road and we want people to be extra vigilant and alert, especially during the winter months. Please take precautions when parking vehicles. Make sure you park in well lit areas, your vehicle is locked properly and alarm is activated or gear and steering locks are in place,” he advised.
