Aid for homeless foreigners

With the help of donations from the community and business sector, NPO Uthando Lwezizwe handed over groceries to some of the victims of recent xenophobic attacks.

THE non-profit organisation, Uthando Lwezizwe, recently donated food and other items to people affected by xenophobic attacks.

According to Ben Madokwe, the organisation, which is funded by donations from individuals and corporates, felt it needed to do what it could to help foreign nationals who had been left homeless and destitute.

“We have formed a partnership with the business sector, local churches and local community as well as a community radio station called Izwi lomzansi FM to help source donations of food and clothing from the community,” said Ben.

The food and other items valued at around R3 000 were handed out on 8 May

“We as the Uthando Lwezizwe will continue doing this until people are all re-integrated in their communities. We have offered our services as the organisation to work with all the stakeholders in government, churches and foreign nationals to ensure that all the people are welcomed back to their communities and most importantly live in peace. We believe as an organisation that the facilitation of community dialogues is critical to ensure xenophobia doesn't happen again,” said Ben.
