Two people were arrested in Umbilo for being in possession of heroin.

DURBAN Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team members arrested two suspects for possession of drugs.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane, it is alleged that on 5 May around 8.30pm, the members were patrolling in the Umbilo area when they noticed a suspicious looking man in Umbilo Road.

“The 31-year-old male was searched and five packets of heroin were found in his possession. The total value of the recovered drugs is R1750. He was arrested and charged for possession of drugs,” said Zwane. The man was detained at Umbilo police station.

At about 9.45pm, police were called to Keits Avenue in Bulwer where a 29-year-old woman was found with a big parcel of heroin with an estimated value of R25 000. She was also arrested and charged for possession of drugs.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for working tirelessly in rooting out drugs in the province. “We will continue with these operations to eliminate the drug trade and drug use in our province because the use of drugs is crippling our youth,” she said.
