Driver injured in smash

A resident feels speed calming devices are needed to help curb accidents in Brickfield Road.

A SECOND accident, exactly one week after a serious crash on the same stretch of Brickfield Road, has local resident Ravi Maharaj calling for urgent speed calming measures to be put in place.

According Maharaj, the driver of a car lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road, crashing into two stationary vehicles at the weekend.

Maharaj said the driver was flung out the vehicle through the windscreen and sustained lacerations and a few injuries. He was attended to by paramedics and taken to hospital.

On Sunday 29 March, a motorist crashed his car on a barrier and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hurtle up onto the oncoming lane of the road leaving a path of destruction until it came to a halt.

“This stretch of road is frequently used to race on and endangers the lives of innocent people. There is definitely a need for speed calming devices on this road, which the authorities should urgently consider,” said Maharaj.

Councillor Jethro Lefevre said because of the volume of traffic on the road, policy does not make provision for any form of speed calming.
