Berea police have been hard at work bringing crime to a minimum over the past week.

Car thief nabbed

A man was arrested last Thursday after Berea police caught him breaking into a car.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer for Berea SAPS, police were patrolling along Mugrave Road at about three in the morning when they noticed the man breaking a window of a parked car. “When he saw the police he tried to flee but was apprehended. The owner of the vehicle was informed and the suspect was detained at Berea SAPS.

Police recover power tool

A man was lucky to have his drill set recovered by Berea police after it was stolen in Morningside last Monday.

Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Berea SAPS spokesman said about 1.15pm police were patrolling along Venice Road when a man flagged them down. “The complainant informed them that a suspect had stolen his drill from his vehicle and was running away towards Umgeni Road. A description of the suspect was obtained and the officers gave chase, arrested the suspect and recovered the property.

The suspect was detained at Berea SAPS on charges of theft out of motor vehicle.

Would-be car thieves arrested

Last Thursday afternoon Berea police were patrolling along Bellevue Road, Musgrave when they were stopped by a man who informed them that someone attempted to steal his vehicle.

Lieutenant PN Naidoo said the police were informed of three suspects who got away in a Silver Polo. “The police patrolled the area and saw the suspected vehicle and stopped the vehicle and arrested the suspects who were detained at Berea SAPS,” he added.

The suspects were charged with attempted theft of motor vehicle.
