Support Rare Disease Day and show you care

Be an ambassador for Rare Disease Day and wear your ‘Jeans for Genes’ denim ribbon and favourite pair of jeans on 27 February.

THE Rare Disease Society of South Africa (RDSSA), a community association that offers patient care and support, will continue the success of its annual fundraising event, Rare Disease Day, which is held on 28 February across the globe.

The initiative acknowledges the plight of rare disease patients and their respective families whose lives have been impacted, and encourages the public to partake in collective action by purchasing and wearing a ‘Jeans for Genes’ ribbon to work or school on Friday, 27 February, along with their favourite pair of jeans.

This year’s theme, ‘Living with a Rare Disease’, advocates solidarity and togetherness, and the RDSSA is urging the community and broader public to be an ambassador for Rare Disease Day.

The RDSSA is a beacon of hope for families affected by rare diseases and provides the resources for medical care and practical aid for individuals suffering from life-threatening diseases.

Members of the public and rare disease community are urged to donate R10 by buying a ‘Jeans for Genes’ denim ribbon (details on www.raredisease.co.za) or SMS ‘Rare’ to 38232 to help raise funds for individuals living with rare diseases.
