Frans Alexander for Decorex Durban

Frans Alexander's designs will be featured at this year's Decorex exibition, the leading décor, design and lifestyle exhibition.

MAKE a note in your diary now of Decorex, South Africa’s home of great ideas and Kwa-Zulu Natal’s leading décor, design and lifestyle exhibition, which kicks off on Thursday, 19 March and runs until Sunday, 22 March.

The exhibition takes place at the Durban Exhibition Centre and visitors can look forward to a comprehensive showcase of the latest décor and design trends, products and services – providing visitors with great ideas and inspiration for their interior and exterior spaces. Decorex Durban is also a great day out for the family, with delicious foodie experiences and interactive dining and entertaining demonstrations.

KwaZulu-Natal interior designer, Frans Alexander, will feature his work at the event. He describes his signature style as sophisticated design direction that draws from traditional elements but also exudes an edgy twist and leaves behind the expected. It is this quirky fusion of classic and contemporary that visitors to Decorex Durban can expect to see from the special installation he will be creating at the forthcoming event.

Frans is collaborating with leading local textile house, Home Fabrics, on the space which he has been invited to create in this year’s prestigious Decorex Designer Spotlight feature.

Frans, who has chosen a lounge/dining room scene for his stand, will combine seemingly unsuited raw wood and earthy, organic textures with futuristic Perspex, opulent metallics and pops of electric colour.

With a 13-year-old business that offers a full turnkey service, be it designing from the ground up, coordinating with architects and contractors or refreshing a pre-existing interior with creative inspiration, Frans will bring a wealth of experience to his Decorex Designer Spotlight showcase.

Frans’s design mantra, meanwhile, is to create interiors that are unique and reflect the client’s personality, but still remain functional, timeless and comfortable. Never one to shy away from rocking the design boat, however, he says that visitors to this year’s Decorex Durban exhibition should prepare themselves for a 'gutsy approach that stylises the traditional with a tension of dramatic, moody tones and glamorous, shimmering surfaces'.

Trade focused days will be Thursday, 19 and Friday, 20 March.

Decorex Durban is open from 10am to 8pm daily, and ticket prices are R70 for adults, R60 for trade, pensioners and students and R15 for children.
