UPDATE: Body of missing Midmar Mile swimmer found

The body of Tristan Dennis, who went missing while swimming the Midmar Mile, has been found.

THE body of 30-year-old Tristan Dennis, who went missing on Saturday during the Midmar Mile swimming race, has been found this morning, 10 February.

According to Major Thulani Zwane from Provincial SAPS, his body was found floating in the water.
“An inquest docket has been opened for further investigation at Howick SAPS,” he said.

Divers from the South African Police Services located the body early on Tuesday morning, after which it was positively identified as Dennis.

His family was immediately notified and made their way to the scene, where the event personnel assisted them and continued to provide the counselling and emotional support services that have been rendered since he went missing.

The event organisers have extended their heartfelt thanks the South African Police Services Search and Rescue and K9 teams under Lt Jack Haskins, the divers from the South African Police Services and the Navy, who worked tirelessly since the alarm was raised.

They also thanked the community of swimmers, both locally and globally, that has rallied together in support around this tragedy.
