Beachfront comes alive with dance

Young dancers from Siwela Sonke wowed the crowds with their talent at Durban's North Beach on Saturday.

YOUNG performers took part in Youth Dance Force, a culmination production of Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre’s Education and ReachOut Programmes on Saturday at the Durban beachfront.

These groups have worked with Siwela Sonke’s dance teachers for six months, developing their dance technique and honing their skills thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF).

This showcase of hard work and dedication included more than 80 children from Durban central, Clermont, Umlazi and KwaMashu. The Youth Dance Force production has also been made possible through support from the eThekwini Department of Arts and Living Cultures. This was a particularly special event as this was the first production for Siwela Sonke’s 20th anniversary.

Since its inception in 1994, Siwela Sonke has become one of the leading dance companies in South Africa, producing and touring work nationally and internationally.
