St Thomas receives Christmas cheer

KZN MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Ravi Pillay and his staff spread some festive cheer at St Thomas Home last Friday.

Children at the St Thomas Home in Durban received a special visit and some surprises from KZN MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Ravi Pillay and his staff last week.

According to Kiru Naidoo, communications officer at the ministry of Human Settlements and Public Works, the occasion was the official opening of the R12 million state-of-the-art Public Works Conference Centre in Durban. “The facility is part of the government’s cost-cutting measures to host meetings and events in-house rather than at hired facilities.”

The conference centre is available to all government departments. Next year, KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu will host his provincial lekgotla at the facility. Joining MEC Pillay on the visit to the home where they also provided lunch was Public Works Head of Department Roger Govender, his executive and parliamentarians serving on the KZN Public Works Portfolio Committee. Funds for the gifts which included school shoes, games and toys were gathered through voluntary contributions from staff in the Department.
