Berea Rovers to form part of sporting precint

AN agreement has been reached between Hoy Park management and the Berea Rovers Sports Club.

eLan Property Group CEO, Mark Taylor and Dave Henry, and Dave Stevens and Kieran Connell of Berea Rovers, helped facilitate the parties coming to an agreement.

Taylor said: “As a member of Berea Rovers since 1988, I, together with Hoy Park Management, engaged with the club and discussed a wishlist, and it is a credit to both parties that we managed to satisfy the vast majority of these requests. By coming to a resolution, Rovers will maintain their legacy and be a sustainable club for many years to come. It is now our goal to engage with local schools so that they may also utilise some of these world-class facilities at Kings Park.”

Berea Rovers Chairman, Dave Stevens said: “Berea Rovers Sports Club is indebted to Hoy Park Management and the eThekwini Municipality for allowing the club to be part of the exciting Kings Park Sports Precinct, which will benefit the sportsmen and women of Durban, including its members. The club looks forward to these exciting times ahead for our city.”

Hoy Park Management plan to provide sporting facilities of international repute, and both parties have voiced their excitement of what this will mean for the City of Durban and the youth of KwaZulu-Natal.

Hoy Park Management MD Carlos Catalino said they were mindful of Berea Rovers’ role in Durban and believed the club formed part of the city’s vision of developing a greater Kings Park Sporting Precinct, in their pursuit of hosting the Commonwealth Games.

“We have a dream to provide an opportunity to every young sportsman or woman, no matter which sport they choose to pursue. The Sports Development Centre will benefit more than just the players themselves, as graduates in sports-related industries will now have a chance to work at the Centre,” he said.
