Pascal sings Brel

Daniele Pascal will perform songs by Brel at the Rhumbelow Theatre.

ACCLAIMED actor, playwright, multi-platinum recording artist and chanteuse Daniele Pascal presents a new musical, Pascal Sings Brel, at Rhumbelow Theatre, Durban, on Friday 31 October, Saturday 1 November, and from Friday 7 November to Sunday 9 November.

In the Francophone world, Brel has left an enduring influence on music and culture and he has inspired many musicians worldwide. He is considered a master of modern chanson and became an influence on David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Marc Almond and Rod Mckuen. Brel is today the third bestselling Belgian recording artist of all time.

All the songs in this production bring back personal memories. They encompass most of Brel's career, from difficult beginnings to the glorious one-man shows at the Olympia and Carnegie Hall.

Pascal casts a haunting spell with her intimate and dramatic vocals as she journeys the landscape of Brel with passion, intellect and wit. The songs are in Flemish, English and French and will particularly strike home to South African audiences, as Daniele brings back to life songs such as Ne me quitte pas, Carousel, Amsterdam, Sons of , Brussels, Marieke, Les Flamandes, to name a few.

Daniele is accompanied on piano, narration and backing vocals by musical director Pieter Van Helslandt, a 2014 Woordfees Award Nominee.
