Good arrests by Umbilo SAPS officers this week.

Shoplifting

A WOMAN was arrested for shoplifting on 21 September.

A security guard saw the woman pick up a tin of baby formula, valued at R224,99 and other items and head to the till point and joined the line. While standing in the line she put the baby powder tin inside her bag, paid for the other items and left the shop. The security guard stopped her and asked why she had not paid for the formula, and she apologised to him. She was arrested and a case of shoplifting is under investigation.

Common robbery

ON 21 September Umbilo SAPS officers arrested a 26-year-old man at Khuzimpi Shezi Road for common robbery.

A man was waiting for transport when three unknown men walked past him when one suddengly grabbed him and started choking him. The other two grabbed a bag with R300 cash, a Bible and a book of songs. The man fought with the man choking him, and he pulled away and ran off.

The man chased after them and called for help. The public assisted in chasing the men. One of the thieves was apprehended and the bag was recovered. The money, however, was no longer inside. The man was arrested and the case is under investigation.

Theft general

UMBILO SAPS officers arrested a 32-year-old man for theft at the scene of a crime in Watford Road.

A man was on duty and started doing his random search, checking trucks loaded to deliver. The said truck was loaded with extra meat valued at R11 846,88.

On questioning the suspect he admitted that he loaded extra meat by mistake and had mistakenly given it to clients. The case is under investigation.

Possession of drugs

ON 21 September Umbilo SAPS officers arrested three men on two different occasions for possession of drugs.

Constable Mfeka and his crew were performing crime prevention duties doing stop and search duties, and searched two men in Sydney Road. One was found in possession of heroin valued at R300 and the other had heroin valued at R100.

In Canberra Road, a man was searched and dagga with a street value estimated at R150 was found hidden inside a bag he was carrying.

The cases are under investigation.
