“The injured witness was picked up by his brother who put him in his vehicle and continued to chase the suspect. They arrested him and recovered the tablet,” Naidoo explained. The suspect was taken to Berea SAPS where he was charged with robbery and attempted murder.

Chain snatcher arrested

A 24-year-old -man was arrested for robbery on Saturday morning after snatching a chain from a woman.

“The woman was walking along Musgrave Road, when a man came up behind her and pulled her neck chain and fled.” said Lt PN Naidoo.

A man who witnessed the incident chased the suspect and patrolling policemen drove up and also gave chase. “The members arrested the suspect who tried to swallow the chain but could not and the chain was retrieved from his mouth. The chain was returned to the owner,” Naidoo added.

Naidoo advised community members to always be vigilant whenever they are walking on the street carrying valuables. “You must watch out for suspicious people watching you or following you and report this to the police so regular patrols can be done,” he said.

Thief caught red handed

A Morningside woman was woken up by Berea police in the early hours of Monday morning after a thief was arrested in her car.

“Police found a man inside the vehicle trying to steal a plastic packet containing a pair of shoes worth R2000. The suspect was charged for theft out of motor vehicle and detained at Berea SAPS.

“The public must not leave valuables in vehicles, and also not leave them exposed on the backseat as this could create an opportunity for someone to break in,” warned Naidoo.
