Fun surf series

ALL surfers, young and old, especially beginners and people who love the ocean, are encouraged to join in on a fun surf series which starts this Sunday.

Umhlanga’s based Wave Wizard Surf Club is 30 years old this year and is celebrating with a three part surf series which will take place over three weekends starting on Sunday 14 September, and following on 19 October and 30 November.

This is all about fun and family. The club encourages everyone to enter simply to be part of the action at Umhlanga’s main beach for a day of fun in the sun.

Surfers from all clubs are welcome to enter. Age divisions will run from ‘Wave Rats’ which is the beginner/novice division. This is for any age as long as you have never entered a competition before. In both girls and boys divisions there will be U14, U18, Open and Masters (35+). Cost is only R50 per entry.

Club chairman Jestyn Viljoen said: “We are really excited about getting this fun series going and we will follow it up with a big prize giving at the end of the year to celebrate the club’s 30-year history. We also welcome Lizzard Surfware as our new sponsors together with Hurricane Surf. Our aim is to encourage the really small kids to take part just for the experience and also to get all the old club surfers back to have a social time enjoying our beautiful Umhlanga Beach.”
