Berea police were hard at work trying to bring crime levels to a minimum this week.

Chain and iPhone recovered

A woman was lucky to have her iPhone and gold chain returned after two knife-wielding theives robbed her last Wednesday.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, spokesman for Berea SAPS, the woman was at the gate outside her Botanic Avenue home when two men approached her. “One was armed with a knife. As she knelt down one of the suspects pulled her by her hair while the other with a knife pulled her chain and took her iPhone,” explained Naidoo.

Both suspects ran down Botanic Avenue but were stopped in their tracks after a police vehicle passed the shaken woman and were informed of the crime and given a description of the suspects.

“Suspects were chased and one suspect was apprehended at Steve Biko Road while the other got away. The okapi knife, gold chain and iPhone were recovered,” added Naidoo.

Gate removed from rail

A suspicious man was seen removing a gate off its rail at a Musgrave Road property in the early hours of Tuesday morning and police were alerted. “Members responded quickly and the 22-year-old suspect was caught and charged with damage to property,” said Lt Naidoo.

Washing stolen off line

A Morningside woman received a big surprise when she returned home on Monday afternoon to police at her home.

According to Lt PN Naidoo, the members were called to the home after receiving a tip off that someone had been stealing washing from the line at the Cowey Road home.

Police arrived and caught the 23-year-old thief red handed. He was arrested for theft.

Frozen chicken stolen

A man was at work viewing cctv footage on Monday when he noticed a woman taking a box of frozen chicken out of their Smiso Mkwanyana (Goble) Road store and placing it outside on the road. “According to the complainant, another male suspect took the box and put it in a van. The complainant called the police who arrived and swiftly arrested the suspects,” said Lt PN Naidoo.
