Family robs local business

Shop owners are urged to be aware of a family of thieves.

A shopowner at City View Shopping Centre has warned other busineses to be on the lookout for a family of alleged thieves which appears to be doing the rounds in Durban.

According to the shop owner, the family enters the shop and is very friendly, happy and well-spoken.
“The mom distracts you at the back of the shop, the children, aged between two and 13, run around and play and the dad carries a smaller child. The children are trained to steal. My handbag along with money and jewellery was stolen,” she said.

She said the family had been caught on the CCTV camera footage and she had opened a case at Durban Central SAPS.
“You don’t suspect anything as they are very friendly, and seem to be a happy family.  I would never have thought there would be anything suspicious about them. They are doing their rounds and need to be caught, as they are getting away with it, and have stolen from other shops around Durban,” she said.

The woman said she believed the family lived in Chatsworth and had hit other shops across Durban including Merebank, Bluff, Chatsworth and Montclair.

CCTV footage at the shop shows the mother distracting the shop owner while the one daughter is instructed by her father to steal bags lying on a nearby chair.
