Lace up for Boxer run

The Boxer Super Run will take over the streets of Durban with waves of 5km fun on October 13. Entrants can choose the wave that best suits their running prowess.

THE Boxer Super Run is back again this year and will take place on Sunday, October 13. Entrants can choose the wave that best suits their running prowess when they take on the 5km in Durban.

Lee-Ann Pillay, Boxer Superstores’ head of marketing, said the appeal of the Boxer Super Run lies in its accessibility and ability to accommodate a diverse range of participants, from elite runners to casual joggers and beginners.

“Enhancing the attraction of the 5km distance, the Boxer Super Run allows participants to choose their ideal starting wave based on their running experience. Runners can select either the Open Wave or the Super Social Wave. The 5km event will culminate with the thrilling Elite Men’s Wave and Elite Women’s Wave.”

The Open Wave caters to serious runners but not Elites and will start at 07:00.

“This wave is ideal for club runners, schools and anyone looking to challenge themselves and potentially improve their personal best. For those who prefer the social aspect of running, the Super Social Wave offers a later start (between 08:00 and 09:30).

“In this wave, time is not a priority; instead, participants can enjoy a fun day out with family, friends or co-workers. We encourage this wave to show off their flair for fashion by dressing up and bringing the vibe. Regardless of the wave that you choose, remember to finish with a smile.”

Adding to the excitement, Pillay said that in 2023, Precious Mashele and Glenrose Xaba became the fastest South Africans (at that point in time) to complete a 5km run on home soil with their remarkable times of 13:44 and 16:03 respectively.

“We can’t wait to see if they can achieve this feat again in 2024. We invite all runners in the Open and Super Social Waves to stay after their race and support the Elites. You might witness history in the making. Join us by entering today, and be part of South Africa’s most social 5km run.”
